COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND YOUTH STUDIES LABORATORY

Introduction and Objectives

The establishment of the Community Education and Youth Studies Laboratory is in line with the second thrust of development plan in the Ninth Malaysian Plan (9MP), which is to raise the capacity for knowledge and innovation and also to nurture first class mentality. It is therefore the responsibility of the University especially for the Institute for Social Science Studies (IPSAS) to help the government develop quality human capital.

An approach through training, education and research in community development is vital in order to raise a community that is knowledgeable, competitive, has the culture of excellence, integrity, professional, accountability, and inculcate strong moral values. The establishment of future communities will be influenced by characteristics, attitudes and values that are practiced by youths today. With God’s will, the practice of noble values by today’s youths will create future community leaders with positive and noble values.

Therefore, focus on youth should be given specific emphasis. One of IPSAS’ agenda is a focus on youth studies to generate new knowledge and approaches to be integrated into youth development programs. Sub-fields under this Laboratory are as follows:

  1. Agriculture and Rural Education
  2. Community Education and Development
  3. Community Empowerment
  4. NGO Development
  5. Youth Resource Development
  6. Youth as Partners of Development
