Institute for Community and
Peace Studies (PEKKA) was officially established on 23rd
November 2001 [Higher Education Secretariat No.7/2001]. The
establishment/formation of Institute for Community and Peace
Studies (PEKKA) is to fulfill the mission of Universiti Putra
Malaysia to be a leading centre for learning and research,
contributing not only towards human advancement and creation
of knowledge but also to the creation of wealth and nation
building.
In its efforts to enhance
research excellence, the Institute has been restructured to take
into account the cluster concept and research trust. The
restructuring of the Institute is also in light with UPM as
Centre for Agricultural Studies, UPM as Centre for Excellence in
Agrobiotechnology, UPM as a Research University and UPM as the
centre of knowledge and wealth building.
Effective from 1st
July 2006, PEKKA has been renamed as Institute for Social
Science Studies (IPSAS).
