The establishment of Social Change, Economy and Peace Studies Laboratory aims to support and reinforce the institute’s mission as a reference centre in fields of social science and humanities at the national, regional and international levels. This establishment is consistent with the government’s effort to achieve social and economic development among Malaysians through the Ninth Malaysia Plan (RMK9) which focuses on addressing socio economic imbalances.
Thus the establishment of this lab will assist the government by providing the inputs in the formulating of continuous strategies towards poverty eradication and balanced growth in order to reduce wealth gap across ethnicity and locality. In the implementation of its functions, the laboratory uses a multidisciplinary approach such as

empirical data collection which can assist the government in planning and implementation of national policy, need analysis and assessment,

training, technical assistance and short-term training,

consultation services,
-
humanities services and,
-
development of related policies and programmes.
Based on the approach, the lab strive to achieve the stated objectives:

Conduct R&D activities pertaining to social change, economy and peace through research grant and post-doctoral program.

Dissemninate research output and information pertaining to research core activities through various information mechanisme to the policy makers and publics.

Provide consultation and dissemination activities to the publics and also to the interested parties that inclined in promoting social, economy and peace equilibrium.
