Social Change, Economy and Peace Studies Laboratory is one of five laboratories established at Institute for Social Science Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Its establishment aims to support and reinforce the institute’s mission as a reference centre in fields of social science and humanities at the national, regional and international levels. This establishment is consistent with the government’s effort to achieve social and economic development among Malaysians through the Ninth Malaysia Plan (RMK9) which focuses on addressing socio economic imbalances.
Thus the establishment of this laboratory will assist the government by providing the inputs in the formulating of continuous strategies towards poverty eradication and balanced growth in order to reduce wealth gap across ethnicity and locality.
In the implementation of its functions, the laboratory uses a multidisciplinary approach through
- empirical data collection which can assist the
government in planning and implementation of
national policy,
- need analysis and assessment,
- training, technical assistance and short-term training,
- consultation services,
- humanities services and
- development of related policies and programmes.
