When:  Tuesday, 18 February, 2014
Where: Seminar Room,
Institute for Social Science Studies (IPSAS), Putra Infoport UPM

Session 1:  Writing and Publishing for Top Social Science Journals:  Ask the Editor

Time: 10:00 – 12:00 am

What do top journal editors look for in good social science/youth journal articles? In this session, Prof. Zeldin will share his experiences as both an author and an editor.  The session will focus on the importance of two oft-neglected aspects of journal publishing -- writing good introductions and discussing findings. This will be a highly interactive session with much time for Q & A, so make sure to bring your questions!!

Session 2 :  Turning Social Science Research into Good Practice and Policy: Lessons from the U.S.

Time: 2:00 – 4:00 pm

Social scientists are often criticized for not demonstrating the ‘impact’ of their work among their respective community and national stakeholders. Prof. Zeldin’s academic work has been committed to maximizing this very thing – influencing practice and policy-making through research.  In this session, Prof. Zeldin will share his experiences on how researchers, particularly those in the youth studies and social science disciplines, can be better agents of change through the process of translating research findings into useful inputs to both practice and policy.
