RESEARCH PROJECT DATA COLLECTION AT RURAL LIBRARY IN JELI, KELANTAN.

On 30th June 2018, five researchers from the Institute for Social Science Studies, UPM paid a visit and carried out the data collection among the users of four rural libraries in the district of Jeli, Kelantan. The libraries are PD Bukit Jering, PD Batu Melintang, PD Sg. Satan and PD Kg. Gemang. The research project entitled Research on Reading Habits and Attitude Among Rural Library Users in Low Literacy Rate Areas in Malaysia received cooperation from the National Library of Malaysia and funded by Putra-IPM Grant, UPM.  The main objective of the study is to investigate the reading habit and attitude among the rural library users in low literacy rate areas in Malaysia. Reading habits were analyzed through the types of reading materials read, amount of time spent on reading per day, their preferences on their leisure time activities, the language they prefer to read, amount of time spent on surfing the internet and computer/ mobile games. Besides Kelantan, the project will also carry out the data collection in Kedah, Sabah and Sarawak.
